TT+ Rocks in
Bratislava
Czech pro audio distributor Prodance, have
combined a dealer launch of RCF's TT+ line array
with major music event in Bratislava. The 800 plus
charity event featured a complete cross section of
entertainment which included folk music, chamber
music, rock and even tap dancing!
Daniel Smutn, Prodance's technical support was on
hand to meet the dealers on the Friday morning, he
takes up the story "The TT+ system and rigging is
very user friendly and the whole array comprising
of 6 TTL33-A's aside were flown with ease in no
time at all with 2 TTS28-A's ground stacked below,
this really impressed some of our customers who had
turned up early to view the whole event. The set up
of the actual array was also quickly taken care of
with the aid of the RCF TT+ Shaper software; this
takes just a few minutes to enter details of the
venue and then gives you all the array
configuration settings to achieve the best results,
along with vital loading and weight
information.

The crossover was set to 100 Hz, 24 dB/oct, subs
and front fills were delayed and the front fills
were high passed to match the sound field form LA
and subs. The house EQ was left flat for the CD
session and only needed slight room EQ for the live
music. We listened to various CDs from solo
acoustic instruments and solo slap bass through
vocal jazz, jazz, classical music, soft rock, hard
rock and all those brutal styles I can neither
identify nor distinguish from a construction site
with jackhammers and bulldozers".
The bands started arriving in the early afternoon
for sound checks. Smutn again "We had it all, a
folk quartet with twin fiddle, upright bass,
accordion and vocal harmonies, a good-size school
band with drums, keyboards, two electric guitars,
two acoustic guitars, bass guitar, some vocals and
some solo acoustic instruments, excellent rock band
and even a fifteen-piece chamber orchestra with
cembalo".
Prodance's Daniel Smutn, took time out to canvas
some of opinions from his clients who were very
complementary, there where a lot of comments about
the LF extension saying that the TTL33-A surprised
them as most compact line array boxes do not give
you that amount of bass, and most thought that it
was easily enough for small events with just speech
and CD. After the long demonstration using just CD
play back, there were comments such as 'Excellent
sounding lows localized right in the centre, both
sides combine well; nicely detailed mids and gently
aggressive highs". The EQ was left flat and during
the sound checks it went down to -2.2 dB @ 250 Hz
and -3 dB @ 4 to 8 kHz.
Smutn on the TT+
"The capabilities of the speakers really showed up
after midnight when the main act, a rock band aptly
named The Steam, took over the stage. The system
was being running smoothly with more than enough
headroom to push the vocals over the band, and
every bit of detail standing out, the kick drum was
tight and punchy and the HF was delivered with real
sparkle. The crowd came forward to the stage, the
bass beautifully spread over the room and the
coverage across the full frequency spectrum was
excellent. All instruments were clear and easily
separable from each other which made it all the
more interesting to listen to".
Another comment from a Prodance dealer "This is a
very good system, with outstanding sound, the size
and weight make for easy logistics and a very
acceptable price. It would be interesting to hear a
larger system and to take it outdoors".
Comments from other professionals included 'I was
pleasantly surprised. Sound wise, I was expecting
the system to have problems but it didn't happen.
The TT covered the room nicely. It was a pleasure
to listen to the CDs and there was no need for
dramatic EQ. At times the sound was better with no
EQ at all. The classical music sounded naturally,
the vocals were intelligible even over a wall of
busy guitars which doesn't happen always with
conventional speakers'.
Other items from the RCF product ranges were used,
with the TT25-A's being used as front fills and
then some ART and 4PRO active boxes being used on
stage as monitors, which made this a real RCF
Showcase and one that Prodance can be proud
of.
